Fossil criotherium skull. Fossil objects, often dating back millions of years, are formed as rocks slowly form around objects buried in mud. This is the skull of a criotherium, and extinct member of the family Bovidae. Existing members of the family include cattle, sheep, goats, buffalo, antelopes and gazelles. This skull shows the eye sockets, the structure of the snout, and teeth in the upper jaw. The size of the brain, and the eating habits, can be deduced from such fossils. Fossil from the Natural History Museum of Lyon,France, originally discovered in the region of Allier,France | |
