Trilobite fossil. Trilobites were marine arthropods that were common throughout the world's oceans between 600-250 million years ago. Trilobites evolved from simple eye-less species,to complex forms with compound eyes, horns, spines and other structural adornments. There are over 15,000 species of trilobites recorded. Most were bottom feeders, but some species evolved to swim long distances. The entire order of trilobites became extinct during the great Permian extinction,250 million years ago,in which over 90 percent of all life of Earth became extinct | |
