Jurassic trace fossils or track marks. Fossilized traces or tracks left by unknown invertebrate animals dated from the Middle Jurassic era (176 to 161 million years ago). The traces are smooth and curved which may indicate a gastropod such as a slug or snail. Commonly found fossils from the Jurassic geological era include bivalves, brachiopods and ammonites. The study of trace fossils is called ichnology. Trace fossils are most commonly found at the boundary between different rock sediments. Trace fossils are classified by their place of occurrence and their shape (for example, grooves or burrows).
