Peking man teeth. Peking man was first classified as a distinct human ancestor,Sinanthropus pekinensis, but later work showed it to be a type of Homo erectus, and it was reclassified as Homo erectus pekinensis. These fossil teeth were found in the Zhoukoudian region of China near Beijing (formerly Peking) in the mid-1920s. The fossils are believed to date from between 400,000 and 250,000 years ago. H. erectus fossils have been found in many areas of the world, including Africa,Europe and Asia. This implies that H. erectus spread from Africa, where its ancestors lived | |
