Chrysocolla mineral. Chrysocolla (hydrous copper silicate, blue) is a semi-precious mineral found in stalactic masses (stalactites). In its pure form chrysocolla is soft and fragile and is more often used when found fused with other gemstones, such as agate. Chrysocolla is formed in the oxidation zones of copper-rich ore deposits and is an important surface indicator pinpointing the presence of copper. Chrysocolla is itself a secondary copper ore. The specimen shown here has a bulbous,grape-like (botryoidal) appearance | |
