Haematite. This iron oxide (Fe2O3) mineral ore is seen in its betryoidal (grape-like) form called 'kidney ore'. Here it is a dull red, known as red ochre, although haematite's colour can vary from black to steel grey. It is a common and widely distributed mineral with industrial uses as a red pigment in paint manufacture and in polishing compounds. This sample was found in Brazil | |
