Fayalite crystals. Tabular crystals on the surface of a piece of the mineral fayalite (iron magnesium silicate). It is rare to find well-formed crystals like this for this mineral. Fayalite is rich in iron,being at the iron-rich end of the olivine mineral group,in which the relative amounts of iron and magnesium vary as they replace each other in the crystal structure.
