Sample of goethite. Goethite is a form of iron hydroxide (alpha-FeOOH). It can occur as prismatic crystals or,more usually,in tabular or stalactitic aggregates. It is an important constituent of 'limonite',rocks formed under oxidising conditions at the expense of iron- bearing minerals. The form seen here shows radiating ball-like aggregates. Goethite is an important iron ore. This sample was found in Cornwall | |
