A crystal of pink apatite growing on an aggregate of albite crystals. The name apatite refers to a number of minerals of different compositions,including various metal phosphates,arsenates and vanadates. Albite (sodium aluminium silicate) is colourless or white and forms two different types of crystal; the prismatic variety seen here (known as pericline) and a lamellar (plate-like) variety (known as cleavelandite).
