Crystals of white quartz coated with crystals of pinkish-brown topaz. Quartz (silicon oxide) is colourless when pure,but the presence of impurities can give a range of colours including white,pink,yellow,blue,green and smoky brown. Topaz is a silicate of aluminium and fluorine and also occurs in a range of colours including yellow,blue,green,violet,reddish-brown and colourless.
