Metamorphic sandstone,a sedimentary rock that has changed structure as a result of intense heat or pressure underground. Sandstone is formed by the build up of layers of sand deposited by rivers flowing into the sea. The tiny grains in sandstone consist of the mineral quartz (silicon dioxide). After metamorphosis the rock can be converted into quartzite. Magnification x0.5 at 35mm size | |
