Veniaminof volcano. Eruption of the Veniaminof volcano in the snowy landscape of Alaska,USA. White vapour is rising into the air from the volcano's summit whilst streams of lava (black,at left) are flowing down the side of the mountain. The lava appears black because the surface has cooled to form rock. Mount Veniaminof is a strato- volcano which is 2507 metres high. It has erupted several times since the first recorded eruption in 1830. It forms part of the Aleutian mountains,a range which contains many volcanoes. These volcanoes form part of the Pacific Ring of Fire,a chain of volcanoes which circle the Pacific Ocean | |
