False-colour perspective view of the crater of Mount St.Helens,USA. This image was made by combining thermal infrared data gathered by an airbourne Thermal Infrared Multispectral Scanner (TIMS) with a digital elevation model. Pink areas are relatively new volcanic ash deposits, whilst the orange area shows and older plug of material. The bright blue spots on the plug are gas concentrations at fumaroles, the lips of the fumaroles show as white. The dark blue on the crater side (right) comes from an image of a cloud that was not removed before the image combination was performed | |
