Coastal rocks. The rocks on this coastline are pink granite, and have been eroded and shaped by the action of the sea. Granite is an intrusive igneous rock, formed largely from quartz, potassium orthoclase feldspar, plagioclase feldspar and biotite mica. The precise combination of these components, and the addition of other minerals in small amounts, determines the type of granite. The pinkish colouration comes from mineral impurities in the potassium feldspar. Photographed at the Cote de Granite Rose near Ploumanach,Brittany,France | |
