Beach formation. Sand dunes created on the low- lying coast of England,by the constant deposition of beach sand blown inwards by onshore winds. The metal railings (upper centre) are all that is still visible of a set of steps, which ran down to the beach. Marram grass (lower centre,Ammophilia arenaria) is an important coastal ecology plant, stabilising sand dunes. Photographed at Winterton- on-sea,Norfolk,England | |
