Sea Defences. Beneath an overcast sky,sea defences (consisting of a wall and large granite blocks) receive a pounding by waves. Out to sea, another two sea defence barriers are being constructed. Sea erosion can be rapid. Five years ago this stretch of coast had a beach 100-200 metres wide; now it requires these sea defences. Sea defences are only a localised solution to the problem of land erosion,as the sediment removed from one beach is often carried by sea currents and deposited on another. Therefore to build sea defences in one location may hasten the erosion at another. Photographed at Sea Palling in Norfolk,Britain | |
