A glaciologist uses a saw to cut a section of an ice core drilled from the ice sheet in Antarctica. He is working in a special, refrigerated room at the headquarters of the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) in Cambridge,England. And he is dressed in "clean room" garments in order to minimise contamination of the ice core. The ice core will be analysed by various techniques for chemical & radiochemical trace elements. This data provides evidence of past changes in climate & of current trends in the pollution of the atmosphere | |
