Meteorological measuring station. Row of Stevenson screens containing meteorological measuring and recording devices. The screen is designed to protect its contents from the effects of direct radiation and rainfall (precipitation),whilst allowing the free movement of air through the screen. The screens also ensure that conditions at different weather stations are as nearly standardised as possible, allowing a true comparison to be made between conditions measured at different locations. Readings from this station, run by the Finnish meteorological office, are taken every 3 hours. Photographed at the Arctic Research Centre,Sodankyla,Finnish Lapland | |
