| MODEL RELEASED. Stratospheric ozone research. Technicians inflating a balloon to measure stratospheric ozone over the Arctic. This gas filters most of the harmful ultraviolet radiation from sunlight. Ozone levels decline over the Arctic each spring as it is destroyed by chlorine released by human activities. This research was part of a joint project by NASA and the European Union to look at the amount and rate of stratospheric ozone depletion.
