Flooded parkland,Carlisle. On 8th January,2005,heavy rain fell in Carlisle in Cumbria,England. The equivalent of one month's worth of rain (over 100 millimetres) fell in 36 hours,causing the River Eden and its tributaries to overflow severely. This resulted in the worst flood for more than 100 years. Hundreds of people were evacuated as homes flooded and roads were closed.
