Hurricane Katrina supplies being unloaded from a US Army helicopter in Long Beach,Mississippi,USA. Katrina struck the Gulf of Mexico coast of the USA on 29th August 2005. In coastal towns such as Long Beach,it destroyed the majority of wooden buildings and severely damaged concrete ones. Power and running water were cut off, along with mobile and land line telephones. Airlifting of supplies was the only way to provide food and water to those who were unable to evacuate. Katrina was thought to have been the most costly natural disaster in US history at the time | |
