Supercell thunderstorm over farmland. A supercell thunderstorm is a thunderstorm with a single massive rotating updraft (mesocyclone) in the centre. Sometimes such thunderstorms progress on to become tornadoes. This thunderstorm is outflow-dominated,which means that there are winds flowing outward from the thunderstorm. Mature thunderstorms produce as much as 100 millimetres of rain per hour, and may cause localised flooding. Photographed in Kansas,USA | |
