Nacreous cloud. This is a rare form of cloud characterized by a mother-of-pearl appearance. These clouds form at high altitudes (15-25 kilometres) in the stratosphere and are usually only visible from near the Poles. The dramatic colour of this cloud is caused by light from the setting sun.
