15th century illustration of the Greek mythological figure Pygmalion on knees in front of his statue asking forgiveness. Pygmalion was a Cypriot sculptor who carved a statue of a woman and fell in love with it. After Pygmalion prayed to Aphrodite,the statue came to life and they married.
