The tusks of a mature male African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana). Although CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) banned international trade in ivory to fight the massive illegal trade in 1989,poaching is still a big problem in most parks in Africa. Elephants are herbivores and are the world's largest and heaviest land animals. Adult females and their young live in large social groups, whereas males lead largely solitary lives.
