Black cocktail ant nest. A typical 'carton' nest, made of chewed vegetable matter,of the black cocktail ant (Crematogaster peringueyi). The cocktail ants are named for the cocking action they employ with their 'tail end' (abdomen) when threatened. They are arboreal ants, living in trees and bushes, and old protea flowers.
