A male Orange-breasted sunbird (Anthobaphes violacea) perched on a pincushion flower (Leucospermum cordifolium) during the mating season. This bird is endemic to the Cape area of South Africa. It reaches lengths of 17 centimetres and feeds on insects and nectar,using its long slender beak to probe flowers and the soil. It is an important pollinator of several local plant species.
