Frederick Brodie,British astronomer
Frederick Brodie (1823-1896),British amateur astronomer and civil engineer. Brodie owned and operated a private observatory. It included a 6.4 inch Merz refractor telescope on an equatorial mount. Brodie mainly observed sun spots and star clusters. Brodie,a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society,originally had an observatory in Uckfield,Sussex,which was transferred to the Isle of Wight where Brodie operated a private observatory at Fernhill,Wootton Bridge. Brodie was the uncle of British amateur astronomer and author George Frederick Chambers
