ERS (European remote sensing satellite) was the European Space Agency's (ESA) first Earth-observing satellite program using a polar orbit. ERS-1 carried was launched on 17th July 1991 and operated until 10th March 2000. Envisat was an Earth-observing satellite designed to service the continuity of ERS missions,providing additional observational parameters to improve environmental studies.
