Common dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius) climbing in wild cherry branches. Living up to five years,this rodent may spend up to three-quarters of its life asleep,hibernating when food is scarce. It grows to a length of about eight centimetres and lives in woodland and hedgerows throughout Europe. Dormice spend most of their time in the tree canopy,eating insects,seed,flowers and fruits.
