A skin cancer characterized by abnormal growth of superficial epithelial cells resulting in excessive amounts of keratin seen on the surface and cancer growth into the deeper dermal region which is locally invasive. Inflammatory reactions accompany this local spread. Commonly caused by solar radiation but also by burns,chemical carcinogens or chronic ulcers.
