Light microscopy of human prostate gland showing typical tubular and alveolar-type secretory glands. Glands are lined with a heterogeneous population of secretory epithelial cells. Densely stained structures are noted in the glands, called prostatic concretions. Tending to increase with age, these are accumulations of the secretory products of the glands and may include degenerative cells. Concretions are usually lamellated and may party calcify. The pink tissues between the glands is a mixture of fibrous tissue and smooth muscle. Magnification x55 when printed at 10 cm | |
