Light microscopy of human prostate gland showing typical tubular and alveolar-type secretory glands. In the centre some glands are enlarged indicating overproduction or hyperplasia of their epithelial cells. Many densely stained structures are noted in the glands, called prostatic concretions. Tending to increase with age, these are accumulations of the secretory products of the glands and may include degenerative cells. Concretions may party calcify. The pink tissues between the glands is a mixture of fibrous tissue and smooth muscle. Magnification x14 when printed at 10 cm | |
