Golgi apparatus. Illustration of the structure of the Golgi apparatus,an organelle found within eukaryotic cells. It receives proteins and lipids that are synthesised elsewhere. It then prepares the modified products for transport. The Golgi apparatus consists of membranous folds called cisternae. Protein and lipid molecules are brought in and carried away in the form of vesicles (spheres). Vesicles arrive at the cis face (top) and leave from the trans face (bottom).
