Jewel Box star cluster (NGC 4755),combined optical and infrared image. This star cluster is around 6500 light years distant in the constellation of Crux. This grouping of stars is renowned for the contrast in colour between a red supergiant (centre),and the remaining bright stars which are blue/white supergiants. These massive stars are thought to be around 80,000 times more luminous than the Sun.
