Firman Edward Bear (1884-1968),US soil scientist. Bear was awarded his doctorate at the University of Wisconsin (1917). His thesis was on bacterial activity and lime requirement in soils. He taught at Ohio State University for 13 years,and in the 1930s was director of Agricultural Research for the American Cyanamid Company. He was professor of Agricultural Chemistry from 1940 at Rutgers University,retiring in 1954. He was also editor of the journal 'Soil Science',and wrote numerous books such as 'Soil Management' (1927),'Molybdenum in Plant and Animal Nutrition' (1956),'Chemistry of the Soil' (1955),and 'Earth,The Stuff of Life' (1962) | |
