Edward Bartow (1870-1958),US chemist. Bartow studied in the US,completing his education in Germany where he was awarded his doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Gottingen in 1895. He specialised in drinking water purification and wastewater treatment. By 1905,he was Director of the Illinois State Water Survey and was professor of sanitary chemistry at the University of Illinois (until 1920). He served in the Sanitary Corps of the US Army during World War I.
