Centaur Robonaut rover testing. Centaur,a mobile base for Robonaut 2 being put through its paces in the Arizona Desert,USA,during the 2010 Desert RATS (Research and Technology Studies) field test. Robonaut 2 is a dexterous humanoid robot. Its torso can be attached to Centaur to allow it to explore the surfaces of distant planets in the future. It's a close cousin to the Space Exploration Vehicle (left),which would provide a mobile home for astronauts in their own exploration. Photographed in September 2010
