Conjoined twins. Carte de visite mounted albumen photographic print of the 'Carolina twins',Millie and Christina McKoy (1851 to 1912),from circa 1866. Their name is sometimes given as McKay or McCoy. These conjoined twins were born to slaves and sold at the age of 10 months. They were exhibited in shows and circuses in the USA and Europe. They were taught music and languages and were famed for their singing. Freed by the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863,they continued their career until retiring to a farm on Carolina in the 1880s. Millie died of tuberculosis in 1912,with her sister dying several hours later
