This Magill Intratracheal Apparatus was introduced in 1921. It was designed to deliver a continuous and controllable flow of anaesthetic vapour,such as ether or chloroform,to the patient during surgery. The anaesthetic was delivered into the patient's trachea via a tube,allowing facial surgery to be performed. It was designed by Sir Ivan Whiteside Magill (1888-1986),an Irish born anaesthetist famous for his part in much of the innovation and development in modern anaesthesia
