Photonics polymer,IBM research. Laser beam moving over a polymer to produce an array of small (35-micron-sized) optical channels. These so-called waveguides 'steer' optical signals to and from processors. They are thinner and more densely packed than the use of printed copper lines,Optical waveguides may mitigate spiking data flows in future computer systems. The concept is known as photonics.
