Nanomolecules on graphene. Computer graphic showing the tip of a scanning tunnelling microscope (STM) probing individual molecules (red and grey) as they adsorb on a single-atom thin sheet of carbon (graphene) bound to a ruthenium metal substrate. The shape of this surface is the yellow-orange region,with the bumps showing the presence of individual atoms.
