Philip Strax (1909-1999),US radiologist. Strax was a doctor in New York,and when his wife died of breast cancer at the age of 39 he began a campaign to promote the use of mammography for early detection of the disease. He helped conduct a study involving over 60,000 women which established conclusively that early detection significantly reduced the mortality rate of breast cancer.
