Gyrolith is a rare phyllo-silicate mineral formed by alteration of basalts and in pegmatite dikes intruding limestone. It most commonly occurs as olive green crystal aggregates of small spherical or radial shape. It crystallises in the triclinic crystal system and is a hydrous sodium-calcium-silicate with chemical formula NaCa16Si23AlO60(OH)8·14H2O. Gyrolith often occurs on a substrate of natrolite,a hydrated sodium and aluminium silicate that belongs to the zeolite group of minerals | |
