Giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) resting its head on a tree stump. The giant panda mainly eats the shoots and leaves of bamboo,which is abundant in its mountain forest habitat of southern central China. It will also eat fish,insects and small rodents. The giant panda is active from dusk until dawn,and eats for most of its waking life. It is a solitary animal,meeting other pandas only to mate. Its habitat and numbers are threatened by humans.
