Realizing the commercial potential of the electroplating processes developed by Elkington and Ruolz,Charles Christofle (1805-63) had negotiated in 1842 licences to the French rights of the Elkington and Ruolz patents. His “galvanoplasty works†was a technologically advanced manufacturing plant which established a highly successful business in gold and silver plating in France.
