Isaac Lea (1792-1886),US conchologist. Lea worked as a publisher in Philadelphia,USA. In his spare time,he studied natural history and specialised in conchology,the study of mollusc shells. He amassed a large collection of freshwater mussels,and published papers on molluscs over a period of some 50 years. His magnum opus was the 13-volume work that was titled 'Observations on the Genus Unio' (1827-1874).
