Ryukichi Inada,Japanese physician
Ryukichi Inada (1874-1950),Japanese physician. Inada studied medicine at Tokyo Imperial University. He then studied in Germany before returning to become professor of medicine at what is now Kyushu University in Fukuoka,Japan. Inada carried out ground-breaking research in 1914 and 1915 into Weil's disease,a form of leptospirosis. This condition affects the liver and causes symptoms such as jaundice and kidney failure. It was research by Inada that identified the spirochaete (corkscrew-shaped) Leptospira bacterium that caused the disease. Inada was also an oncologist,studying cancers and their causes and treatments
