This type of fracture (also called Salter-Harris fracture) affects children as their bones develop. At upper centre is an anterior (frontal view) artwork of the normal knee in a growing child,with the epiphysis (end of the bone) labelled. Above the epiphysis are the growth plate (physis) and the metaphysis. At lower right,an artwork from the same viewpoint shows fractured ends of the femur and tibia.
