Neuropteris is an extensive genus of extinct fossil ferns,of which species have been found in shale and coal deposits from the Devonian to the Triassic periods. It was a seed fern, meaning that instead of reproducing by spores like modern ferns,it reproduced by way of seeds. Its leaves are rather wide and tongue shaped, with parallel side edges and they are close set, both on the axial vein and among each other. Most widespread across the Northern Hemisphere, notably in France,England, and the Netherlands as well as the American states of Pennsylvania,Illinois, and West Virginia | |
